Wikileaks, Again, exposes the American intelligence agencies' dirty laundry. This time it accuses the CIA of spying on citizens around the world through their smart devices.
Filtration, dubbed Vault7, it is the largest to date. Includes almost 9.000 classified documents and most of its hacking tool arsenal. With this leak, Wikileaks wants to make the world aware of the risks it faces in terms of cybersecurity.
Some of the reports talk about how the CIA was able to turn mobile phones, computers and, even, televisions, into microphones. And not only that, they could also capture the device's geolocation, as well as capturing images through cameras.
It is also alleged that the CIA was capable of capturing the conversations we have on WhatsApp, Telegram, Weibo, among others.
This is a brief summary of the published documents:
- Samsung TVs are turned into microphones when, en teoría, they are turned off (they don't actually turn off, but rather stay in a sleep state).
- WhatsApp messages and audio can be captured, Telegram, Wiebo, among others.
- Malware dedicated for Windows, OSx, Linux and routers.
- CIA investigations on vehicle control systems.
- Hacking tools that allow remote control of devices.
- Thousands of CIA targets located in Europe, Latin America and the United States.
- Forensic analysis techniques.
- And much more.
No doubt, este tema dará que hablar en los próximos días y semanas. De confirmarse todo, se trataría del mayor caso de espionaje de la historia.
