Mercadona, The supermarket giant, could face a millionaire fine by the Data Protection Agency (AEPD), due to the leak of images taken by security cameras in WhatsApp conversations by supermarket employees.

The law is clear: “In general, Data controllers
personal -taken by cameras or camcorders- have an obligation to
cancel, deleting and deleting the images within the period established in
Your protocols (except better or greater forecast and / or requirement made
in law), and always within the maximum period of the month
“, forcing the deletion of the images obtained.

Not only were they not erased, if not that they were shared through WhatsApp groups among the company's employees. An action that can cost a good peak to Mercadona, since with the entry last May of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), Sanctions tightened markedly.

This Regulation establishes penalties ranging from 10 million euros or the 2% of annual turnover, to the 20 million euros or the 4% of annual turnover.
