Recently, a group of Russian hackers tried to breach the cybersecurity of some United States embassies through an email.

Members of the Official Association of Government Finance of the United States, received the same email with an attached .xlsm file. Upon downloading this file, software that took control of the computer was immediately installed.

This file installed a version of the software “TeamViewer”, without any authorization, through which, this group of hackers remotely connected to the computer.

Our recommendation in these cases is not to download any type of attached file if we are not completely sure of what we are downloading.
