The mobile application Peekaboo Moments has suffered a data leak, about 100GB of information has been revealed. This data is currently found on the Dark Web.
Caused by the lack of security in an Elasticsearch database, millions of videos and images from the application have been exposed on the Internet for everyone. Tras varios intentos, investigators have not been able to contact the CEO of Bithouse Inc., the company that developed the app.
According to the researcher who found the exposed database, there was data from almost 900 a thousand users and various information could be found such as:
- Full names
- Email address
- Information about the device where the application was installed
- Links to media content (photos and videos) that are hosted on Alibaba Cloud
The threat doesn't end there, since the app transmits data that affects babies. Peekaboo Moments it has a growth tracker, which reveals to criminals who managed to access that data, the height and weight of the babies and in some cases their date of birth.
The cybersecurity expert and founder of the platform Have I Been Pwned, Troy Hunt, mentioned that even though data breaches happen frequently, the fact that this one specifically revealed data about babies, can expose families to future blackmail or attacks using this information.
