Electronic Arts, one of the largest video game producers in the world has suffered a cyberattack. The attack occurred a few days ago, just before the annual E3 video game conference 2021. No doubt, an unfortunate moment.
The American company has confirmed an attack on its infrastructure and that the information listed by the hackers corresponded to stolen data. Fortunately, in that same confirmation, Electronic Arts reported that players' data was not affected by the attack and there is no reason to believe there are risks to their privacy.
However, the information is concerning, especially after the attack on CD Projekt RED via Ransomware. Due to the information that has emerged, The criminals are said to have stolen 780 Gigabytes of data from the company and according to what has been shared on forums they would have “full capacity to exploit EA's services”.
These stolen data belong to source code of very popular video games, such as Battlefield, FIFA21 or The Sims. It also affects Battlefield 2042, a video game that is scheduled to be released next October.
As if this were not enough, the worst part of the attack is endured by the Frostbite program, the graphics engine that includes tools for video game creators, in addition to the various frameworks and development kits that EA has patented. The attackers have posted images of these data on private forums, to demonstrate the authenticity of the attack.
