The popular Netflix series is breaking all records. Not only the series, but also a large number of products related to it. Cybercriminals have found a goldmine, once again, and they take advantage of the series' fame to launch their attacks.
ESET, An antivirus company, has warned about the proliferation of Android applications published on the Google Play Store that contain malicious code. These applications hide under programs to download series wallpapers.
The malware hiding behind the application is not new and is called “Joker”. This malicious program is capable of downloading libraries to corrupt system files and download more malicious programs.
A quick search in the app store shows the whopping number of more than 200 applications created with the theme of the series, many of them could be hiding malware.
As usual, the recommendation is to download applications from official sources and really check their origin. Wallpaper apps, flashlight and similar ones that request many permissions usually contain a large amount of malware.
