Puerto Rican authorities have reported that there was a cyberattack against their electronic toll collection system. The service, called AutoExpress, it had to be interrupted and initially has not resumed.

The incident occurred after a website crash, supposedly due to maintenance and updating driver data. Initial investigations indicate that no confidential information has been stolen.

This is not the first cyberattack against this country. A few months ago hackers attacked the main internet provider, the telephone system and the official Senate website. In 2020, an online scam stole more than 4 millions of dollars from public funds.

These types of cases remind us, once again, how critical some public infrastructures can be if they are not properly protected.
