Yesterday afternoon, several sources reported a cyberattack against the Palma City Council. The scam resulted in a fraud of €300,000. Everything points to it being a case of phishing.

According to a statement, the scammers posed as the maintenance and cleaning company and sent Treasury a fake invoice at the end of February. The invoice stated that the money should be deposited into a bank account different from the usual one and that it would be the new account for future payments.

The City Council assures that the established protocols were followed and requested the certificate of ownership of the new bank account, cosa que fue confirmado y todo parecía auténtico… aparentemente.
