User data stolen from Menéame

This past Tuesday they have released a statement on Twitter reporting the facts. They were able to stop the attack immediately., But it was too late to prevent the information leak..

Apparently, The events occurred in the past 14 September, when initially detected “A strange activity” that was identified as an attempted attack similar to those that “occur very often”.

Days later they received a notice from several people where a URL appeared where they say to sell the Menéame database.. The number of affected users seems to reach 40%.

Menéame recommends users change their passwords to more secure ones.
