More and better spyware is emerging every time. These types of software are designed to remain hidden on an infected device and collect as much information as possible. The public administration usually makes use of these tools for national security purposes. After the Pegasus controversy a few months ago, Graphite comes into play.

A Financial Times report states that the U.S. Government is using this tool in government agencies. This backdoor is capable of bypassing modern smartphone protections and evades the encryption of messaging apps like Signal or WhatsApp, even recovering information from backups.

In the same report, they also highlight that it is unfeasible to spy on everyone in real time, since there is not enough capacity to process all the information that could come from the entire population. Specifically, this system is used by the DEA to fight drug trafficking.
