Manufacturer SonicWall Report Reveals Cyberattacks Are On The Rise In Small And Midsize Businesses, no longer focusing solely on large corporations. Attackers are increasingly using artificial intelligence to carry out more precise attacks, with an alarming increase in 452% in Server-Side Request Forgery attacks (SSRF) in 2024. SonicWall Highlights the Importance of SMBs Having Managed Security Service Providers in Place to Address These Threats.
The report notes that more than 210.000 New malware variants in the last year, which is equivalent to 637 Daily strains. Malware has grown by 8% with respect to 2023, with an increase in 92% in May. In addition, Fileless attacks, that use native system tools to avoid detection, have gained popularity. An increase in the 9% in Corporate Email Compromise attacks (BEC, por sus siglas en inglés), which account for almost a third of reported incidents.
Ransomware remains one of the biggest threats, with an increase in 8% in North America and an alarming 259% in Latin America. In the healthcare sector, This type of attack has been present in the 95% of security breaches. On average, Businesses have faced critical attacks for 68 days. Cybercriminals often take advantage of times of less vigilance, such as early mornings and weekends, to launch their offensives.
The report also emphasizes that the evolution of attacks means that traditional protection is no longer sufficient. SMBs are encouraged to adopt more proactive security approaches, as automation and artificial intelligence are empowering attackers' tactics. Lack of resources and specialized personnel makes many companies vulnerable, so cybersecurity must become a strategic priority.
