The X social network (formerly Twitter) suffered a massive cyberattack, allegedly carried out by the hacktivist group Dark Storm, that used denial-of-service attacks (DDoS) to interrupt the operation of the platform. Elon Musk himself confirmed that the company faced a significant attack with extensive resources. To mitigate the impact, X activated Cloudflare protections that require verification of suspicious users through captchas.

The hacktivist group Dark Storm has claimed responsibility for the attack on its Telegram channel, Sharing Evidence of Service Outage. This group has previously attacked organizations in Israel, Europe and the USA. UU. Their modus operandi is to use botnets and compromised servers to generate massive traffic and crash target systems. By regularly using botnets composed of infected devices in different countries, it is difficult to trace its true origin.

X's vulnerability to this cyberattack highlights the growing threat that hacktivists pose to large tech platforms. Similar cases have affected giants such as Microsoft and OpenAI in the past. While the investigation is still ongoing, X has not yet provided an official statement on the exact origin of the attack.
