Cybercrime increases and only you can avoid it

Today, thanks to the Internet, we have access to a wide range of products and services that we can rent or buy, from planning our holidays to making the weekly purchase, all within reach of a simple click.

But, What if what we want to rent is a hacker? Or buy a virus? Well, we can also.

Formerly, if you wanted to hire the services of a hacker you had to know how to move around the black market and locate the right person for the job.. Now, with the rise of cybercrime, virtual markets have been appearing where cybercriminals offer their services in the purest eBay style.

These markets aren't made up of four boring people looking for something to bother people with., rather, they form a complex network with criminal organizations involved, that are hidden on the B-side of the Internet, away from search engines and, overcoat, of the Police.

The theft of personal data has grown a 250% in 2016

But you will think: “Estos servicios costarán mucho dinero y no saldrá rentable adquirirlos”. Not bad, Wrong.

Prices vary depending on whether it is a personalized or generic service. For example, suppose you have an Internet business that is going from strength to strength. Your sales grow every day and your brand is gradually gaining recognition among people. Your competition, seeing that you outsell, decides to hire the services of a cybercriminal.

By only 100$ per month your competition could leave your website inoperative, losing valuable sales as well as damaging the image of your company. By others 50$, could be done with a Crypto Locker, the famous virus that hijacks all your information, the figure and asks you for a ransom. As you can see, prices within reach of any pocket.

Little is known about these criminal organizations, only when the police manage to capture some can more information be obtained. One of them, Liberty Reserve, in the years it operated (2006 – 2013) made banking transactions worth six billion dollars.

Cybercrime is on the rise and, quoting the Spanish proverb, “más vale prevenir que curar”.
