You walk down the street calmly doing your daily routine. In one hand you carry coffee and in the other your mobile phone. You cross paths daily with hundreds, maybe thousands of people. The data on your phone has just been stolen. How is this possible?
Very easy. Any individual with minimal knowledge can acquire through the Internet what is known, In English, as EvilAP or Evil Access Point. Translated into Spanish it would be an Evil Access Point. And you may ask yourselves, what is an access point?
An access point is what would be known as a device you can connect to in order to receive wireless Internet access. Why evil?
Many people have their mobile devices set to automatically connect to free and open WiFi networks, or they connect directly thinking it is a service offered by the owner of the place where we are located, but this is not always the case, and someone with bad intentions could be behind it.
This person with bad intentions could have a device emitting an open WiFi signal from a small backpack, so that when you connect to that network, you expose all the information on your device: your photos, i, contacts, etc.
If you want to prevent this type of theft, since Intec we recommend some simple guidelines:
- Turn off WiFiwhen you are not using it. You will save battery and avoid scares.
- Do not be trusting.Conéctate sólo a redes inalámbricas en las que estés completamente seguro de su legitimidad.
- Cuidado con las redes públicas, nunca sabes quién puede estar conectado a tu misma red y qué intenciones tiene.
