After the news of the major cyber attack suffered by the company Equifax became known, it has begun to receive multiple lawsuits from its users demanding compensation for the damages suffered.
These claims are based on the fact that, as has been reported, the company did not have the necessary security systems installed to detect and prevent the attack nor did it have a person in charge of information security. This allowed the attackers to steal millions of user data from the company for almost three months without difficulty, without the company being aware of the situation. And to make matters worse, once it became aware, it took more than a month to inform the public.
As has happened in other cases, security breaches in companies are leading to a flood of claims, thus opening the way to a new line of business for law firms that can offer their clients legal advice to take action against companies that have shown negligence in safeguarding their personal data.
The question that arises is what consequences a similar attack suffered by Equifax would have for a Spanish company, lacking the necessary security measures.
