A simultaneous attack on the social network Twitter has taken control of the accounts of popular individuals and companies related to the tech world. Suddenly, all of them have posted a scam claiming to raise Bitcoin for a charitable cause and link to a fake website.

It is not yet clear how the attack occurred, although it has affected many important Twitter accounts. People like Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Bill Gates, Justin Sun, Obama, Mike Bloomberg, Warren Buffett and many more have posted the scam.

Also, many accounts of companies related to cryptocurrencies like Coinbase, CoinDesk, Gemini, Ripple, Cash App, Bitcoin or Binance. And other accounts of relevant tech companies have also fallen, for example Apple, Tesla, Uber, and the list keeps growing…

The co-founder of Gemini, Cameron Winklevoss, said that they had both a strong password and two-factor authentication enabled. That is why the media is wondering how these accounts could have been compromised, if they were able to bypass even two-factor authentication.

One of the most feasible options is that a third-party service to post on Twitter was hacked, or Twitter itself, although this is more unlikely.

The scam itself refers to a website that claims to collect money for the current COVID-19 situation. Efectivamente, it is a scam that has already collected more than 100.000 Dollars.
