The computer network of the Principality of Asturias has suffered a cyberattack that has directly affected the computer system of the Central University Hospital of Asturias (HUCA). This ransomware has caused the pandemic tracking system.

Sources from the Health Service of the Principality explain that “they have had problems with the computer system, although it seems that they are already being resolved”. Unfortunately, it is not the first cyberattack suffered by public health entities in Spain. At the beginning of 2020 it was the Torrejón Hospital that was affected by this type of attack.

In the latest surge of infections, cybercriminals are now directing their attacks towards the health system. These attacks are usually ransomware, to later request a ransom in order to free the system, since health data is especially sensitive.

It is important that institutions, that handle such sensitive information, invest economic and personal efforts to prevent this type of crime from spreading and being able to have consequences on the personal information of citizens.
