General Bytes is a company that manufactures cryptocurrency ATMs, very similar to the most common cash “real” that we can find in our regular bank branches. A vulnerability in these ATMs has been exploited by cybercriminals who have seized significant amounts of money.

These exploited ATMs are controlled by a remote server that manages the operation of these machines. According to a notice made by the manufacturer itself, the successful exploitation is due to a zero-day vulnerability. These types of vulnerabilities are newly discovered and do not yet have a solution.

The manufacturer has also warned customers and suggests not using the ATMs until the vulnerability is fixed on the server, in addition to providing instructions to follow to restore the service.
