Repsol has recently suffered a cyberattack that affected the database of its electricity and gas customers in Spain. The incident occurred through a third-party vendor and was detected in the past 10 September. Although the attack compromised personal information such as names, Surnames, ID, Address and contact details, The company assures that sensitive data such as passwords were not affected, financial information or electricity consumption data.

The company has quickly implemented security measures to bridge the gap and protect user information. In addition, has started proactively notifying affected customers via email and has informed the competent authorities about the incident.

This attack places Repsol on a list of large Spanish companies that have been the target of cyberattacks this year, together with companies such as Orange, Iberdrola, and Telefónica. In all these cases, Cybercriminals try to access customer databases or sensitive company information.
