A ransomware attack targeted at Miljödata, a Swedish company that provides human resources management and sick leave systems, has affected approximately 200 municipalities and regions of Sweden — about 80 % of the national total —, causing a massive disruption in critical services.

The hacked systems store highly sensitive information, such as medical certificates, expedientes de rehabilitación, incidencias laborales y reportes del entorno laboral.

El Ministerio de Defensa Civil sueco, In addition to the CERT-SE agencies and the National Cybersecurity Center, they are coordinating the response. A police investigation has been initiated and the government anticipates the submission of a new bill that will strengthen cybersecurity requirements by law.

This incident highlights the risk of depending on a single provider for critical infrastructures: turning many entities into simultaneous victims of a single point of failure. Although the ransom requested was relatively low, the operational impact has been profound, emphasizing the urgent need to diversify providers, strengthen digital resilience and demand stricter standards.
