A new scam has emerged that uses AI-cloned voices to impersonate a bank or a relative and pressure the victim into authorizing transfers, providing codes or sharing sensitive data. Criminals often combine an alarming SMS with a believable call and take advantage of the urgency so the person acts without checking anything.

Today, very little audio is enough to convincingly imitate a voice through social media videos, voice messages or recorded calls. INCIBE has already documented similar cases and warns that this technique works particularly well because it mixes trust, haste and appearance of normality.

To avoid it, it is recommended to hang up and call the bank's official number, no compartir códigos de verificación y no autorizar operaciones por teléfono si alguien las pide de forma inesperada. También hay que desconfiar de cualquier mensaje que exija actuar de inmediato, porque esa presión suele delatar un fraude.
